Thalames - East Mani - Kyparisos - Porto Kayio - Tenaro cape (Matapas cape)

It had been a long time since we had thought to visit the region of Mani. The last trip to the region had been about 3 years ago. The arrival of Sakis in the city of Kalamata for the weekend was only the reason to venture to the area of Mani and in particular in the eastern and southern part. The southern point of our journey abstained around 140km.

Taygetos mountain - Georgitsi - Kastorio - Parnonas mountain - Karyes - Ano Doliana - Nafplio

Easter’s days off constituted a good occasion for us to make a moto-excursion. With relatively brief processes the appointment was arranged in Kalamata, where we spent the night. Our aim was to wander in the S.E.of Peloponnese and specifically in two of the most known mountains: Taygetos and the Parnonas.

The visit of Vangelis and Lena was the reason to do a small journey on the western Messinian region. Despite the fact that the weather rather ressembled a winter weather, the green fields with the blossom daisies made us –luckily- to feel the seasonal change. We decided to do a mountainous trip, crossing Lykodimo Mountain, one of the most known mountains of the Messinian region.

The appointment was given in the city of Tripoli, while in the excursion participated members that assisted in the city of Kalamata. In our company participated also 2 new friends - except MRC- Christos K. (BMW 1200GS) and Spyros (Yamaha Fazer 600).

Afterwards the summer holidays, the planning of the first excursion of the new “season”, it was natural to be the subject of the discussion of the first automnal meeting of MRC. Therefore it was decided to become the first Sunday that the weather would allow us while the first rain this year made already perceptible its presence from the first Weekend of September. This day was not much late to come while Sunday, 20 Sep 09, seemed to be the ideal day for a ride with our bikes according to the bulletin of the weather which forecasted clouded over, but without rain.

On the occasion of the three-day of the Saint Spirit, but also the European elections, we decided to travel outside Athens. Without trying it much - because of our disposal for excursion we arranged to go in the coastal village of Loutsa (Preveza). It is a tourist resort in the prefecture of Thesprotia that it abstains hardly 40km. from Preveza. It mainly constitutes a known destination of many people of Epirus, for a few days escape from Giannena while it abstains hardly 120km.

Gouves Messinia - Taygetos - Gythio - Stoupa

On the occasion the visit of Ploumisti and Giorgos N in Messinia, we decided to make a one-day excursion in Lakonia via the beautiful way of Taygetos. Entering in Kalamata, we followed the plates for Sparta and soon we met the helical way that entered in the rocky verdant opening in the root of Taygetos. As many times as someone has realised the particular way, each time he will be impressed with the beauty of the natural landscape, but also with the pleasure of riding.

For last way, at our stay in Evros, we left the more northern department of the prefecture. We left Feres with the destination Kastanies (80km) and more specifically the river Ardas. The region is acquaintance from the festival that takes place each July and lasts 6 days. The river begins from Bulgaria, enters in Greece (near to the village Milea) and leads to Turkey, where it is linked with Meric river (in greek: Evros river).

Dadia forest

A usual question in those who have been found in Evros is: “Did you go to the forest of Dadias? …”. It is not accidental while it constitutes one of the most popular destinations of the region. It abstains roughly 60km from Alexandroupoli and roughly 6km. from the national road of Alexandroupoli – Soufli

Nikos Tsouloukis (Ploumisti’s cousin) knew very well the region and he volunteered to tour us. The best thing for us!!!

For the most people, Evros may constitute a “bitter” recollection due to their military service. However, beyond this, Evros is a very beautiful area of Greece with many places of interest. We decided to make our first dash on the west and north part of the County.

Kavala - Levaditis (waterfall) - Xanthi - Sapes - Ferres

The vacation of Easter constituted a good occasion for a visit in Macedonia and Thrace. Unfortunately because the distance (roughly 700km) from Athens, the region is not advised for excursions less than 3-4 days. Therefore, the Maundy Thursday we began from Athens. We made an intermediary overnight stay, in Thessaloniki - to see our friend Antonis - and the next day in the afternoon we reached in the beautiful city of Kavala.

The weather is clouded but not menacing. Vangelis, Giannis, Ioanna, Manolis and Giorgos Z. have come to Nafplio the day earlier and we all set off for the meeting point.

Nafplio - Sitena - Kastanitsa - Malevi's monastery - Ano Doliana - Andritsa

That sunny Saturday morning gave to me and Giorgos Z. the opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee by the sea at Nafplio. The outstanding view of the Bourtzi Castle was not good enough to keep us from “sally fourth”. In a short period of time, we decided to visit Parnonas, and end up to Ano Doliana, where we were going to meet Vaggelis.

The sunshine made the rainfall of the past days seems like a forgotten past… We decided to head to Southern Crete taking a hilly route through the mountains of Lasithi.

After four whole years, I finally had the chance to visit again the beautiful island of Crete. As a guest of my friends Aris and Ada at Kato Gouves (Heraklion) we passed the first four days, drinking “raki” and eating some delicious Cretan “meze” (variety of small dishes), as the rain outside did not want to stop!
