Waiting for Easter holidays we decided to organize a small “excursion” in the region of Messinia, the part of south-west Peloponnesus. For some of us known, for others not...
We had a very good excuse for not starting the trip early in the morning! The total number of kilometers we had to drive would not exceed the 100. Our first destination was the village of Koroni, 35 kilometers away from the place we stayed overnight. The street is relatively easy, with a few turns but the road surface is not the best you can get. Nevertheless, you will enjoy the way because the road at its bigger part follows the coastal line. Koroni is a traditional village, which is amphitheatrically build and gives you the impression of visiting an island! Do not miss to visit the Venetian Castle, from where you will have the possibility of enjoying the village, but also the wider region from different optical corners. At the backside, you will see a splendid beach named Zagka, but also a lot of taverns and rooms for rent.
After enjoying the first coffee of the day, at one of the cafeterias that you can find by the port, we headed back again, in order to visit the waterfalls of Polilimnio Haravgis. As soon as we reached the village Rizomylos, we turned left and followed the direction to Pylos. At the village Kazarma, we turned left, following the relative signs. As soon as we entered in the village Haravgi, we followed once again the signs for the waterfalls. Around 1000 meters before the parking area, we met an off-road path, which was in relatively good condition. It really worth the "effort", even if most of us is not enduro or on-off riders...
About the waterfalls, we had heard some time before from some friends, but we did not have the chance to visit the area... really, they are amazing!!! We left the motorbikes at the parking area and we followed a downhill way about 100 meters. Then, we passed two small wooden bridges and “climbed” the rocks to reach the main waterfall. The landscape was absolutely amazing! Moreover, it is easily approaching. You need around 10 minutes to get there.
If you visit the waterfalls during summertime, do not forget your swimsuit!!! It is a small paradise, which unfortunately or "fortunately" is still not widely known...
