Sightseeing map

Finally after a long time we found the opportunity to leave for a tour. Although our weather information weren’t so good, we decided to leave away from Athens.
The distance from Athens to Ioannina is 440 km. In general the road is good with many turns…but unfortunately for us it was more difficult as it was raining almost in all our way!!! Of course we have forgotten everything the next day…when we arrived at Ioannina. To this trip we had with us, for first time, a very good friend, Manolis. He insisted to visit Ioannina…and us it turned out, he was absolutely right!
As soon as we woke up in the morning, we went to drink our coffee and admire the view at the extraordinary lake Pamvotida!
As the weather wasn’t so good we decided to go for a tour near to our base. So we went at a waxwork Vrelis' museum. Really amazing!!! It is about 20 km from Ioannina at the national road Ioannina – Arta. It is one of the sightseeing’s in the area which is worth it to visit. This museum is among the three waxwork museums in the world (UK, U.S.A.) and in our personal opinion it’s the best. When we finished sight-seeing the weather was much better!!! It was exactly what we needed for our tours!!!
The next day at Ioannina was also very good!!! We woke up pretty early and we left straight away… destination Papigo (59 km). The way was really something!!! Amazing view!!! Before arriving at Papiggo we stopped at the river Voidomatis, which is famous for the rafting races that are taking place there!!! We admired the extraordinary view, took a lot of pictures and then we continued our route.
Papigo is a traditional and very picturesque small village placed at the mountain Timfi.
Although it is a very touristic area it hasn’t lost anything of its beauty. There we drunk our coffee and we stood speechless of the beauty!!!
After Papigo we went to Konitsa (20km far from Papigo). One of the reasons to visit Konitsa is a great old bridge. It was build at the end of the 19th century and although many times at the wars was target… it still stands.
After Konitsa we decided to visit Metsovo, which is 51 km far from Ioannina. The road is full of turns. It might seem to you tiring but the view is a fine reward. As soon as we arrived at Ioannina a big surprise was waiting for us… snow!!! There was snow everywhere!!! This reminded us that winter was still here…
Metsovo is a really beautiful and very traditional village. We ate at one of the picturesque taverns that are at the main square of the village and early in the afternoon we decided to return at Ioannina.
We suggest you to visit Ioannina!!! There are too many beautiful places to see and we are sure that you won’t want to leave.
As for us…at first chance we will go again!
